“To Philomena, nothing is refused.”

“Pray to St. Philomena.
Whatever you ask from her, she will obtain for you.”
– Pope Gregory XVI
.
St. Philomena’s Feast Day is August 11
The Mass is taken from the Common of a Virgin Martyr
(First Mass with the Introit “Loquebar”)
.
Short History
The sacred body of St. Philomena, a Virgin-Martyr of the first ages of Christianity, was early in the nineteenth century [1802] discovered in the Roman catacomb known as the Cemetery of Priscilla. An inscription and phial of blood bore witness to the genuineness of the relics. The many miracles since wrought by Almighty God in favor of those who have invoked St. Philomena have caused her cultus to become widespread in the Church. The Liturgical celebration of her Feast was authorized by Pope Gregory XVI in 1837. (Commentary from the Saint Andrew Daily Missal)
.
Liturgical Confusion
The feast day of St. Philomena was removed/abolished from the 1962 missal under the authority of “Pope” John XXIII. Among the many feasts that were ordered removed or suppressed during his “pontificate,” the feast of St. Philomena seemed to be among those attacked with a particular vehemence, having been given the specific instruction: “However, the feast of Saint Philomena, virgin and martyr (11 August), is to be removed from all calendars.”
It is not surprising that the Vatican II Church is against so formidable a Saint. It is often cited that during one exorcism, the devils confessed: “Our accursed enemy is this great Virgin and Martyr, St. Philomena. Devotion to her is a new and terrible warfare to hell.”
.
Church Devotion
Popes and Saints had devotion to St. Philomena, among them: Popes Gregory XVI, Pius IX, Leo XIII and St. Pius X; Saints John Marie Vianney, Peter Julian Eymard, Peter Chanel, Madelaine Sophie Barat, Frances Xavier Cabrini, [Blessed] Anna Maria Taigi, etc.; and many other devout personalities.
Holy Church declared St. Philomena a “Thaumaturgus” (Wonder-Worker) and “Patroness of the Children of Mary.”
St. Philomena is Patroness of impossible/hopeless cases, of the youth, and of holy purity. She is invoked for diverse kinds of spiritual and temporal necessities, especially powerful in cases involving conversion of sinners, return to the Sacraments, expectant/destitute mothers, problems with children, unhappiness in the home, curing the sick, sterility, and even mental illness; she assists priests in their work and helps the missions.
